• Hi:)

Whenever I create a new user account with admin role (for developers), I lose the ability to edit other users. By default I should be the only Administrators since I have a single site. When I log in with my credentials, there’s the name of the last developer added to the Users account. I log out and when I try again, the developer’s name is still there. He has the ability to delete all the accounts and I don’t.

What’s causing this problem? Can you please point me to the right direction? I’ve been reading about this, but I’m not able to fins a solution. Any help is sincerely appreciated.

  • I’m just wondering where you see the name of the other developer? Is it on your account or in the list of all users? A screenshot might be good, you can upload it here: https://imgur.com

    Hi:)

The developer’s name is on the top right. https://imgur.com/TnRhczo

I also noticed that I can only sign into my site from the hosting login, not from the wp-login. I think this is odd, too.

The name at the top right is the name under which your login is registered. If the login is only possible via the hoster, then the hoster will certainly define a user account for this. I would recommend that you contact your hoster’s support team to clarify this.

I never shared the information about the web hosting login. I think developers log in from the wp-login, after receiving the email to reset their password. I’m the one who can’t do it. I addressed this issue with the hosting company today and I was told that this is a WP issue. That’s why I’m on the forum.

OK. What happens if you log in via WordPress? So via /wp-login.php – is that even possible?

The following way should actually work:
    Log in to the backend.
Create a new user with your email address and as an administrator. Give him a password and remember it.
Then go to /wp-login.php in a private window of your browser and log in with your email and password.
    Is that possible?

Let me check. I will get back to you.

I created a new email account for this issue. I added a new user with admin role, my new email, my new user name. Then, I got the email to generate the password. I chose one and saved it.

Then, I went to the websitename.wp-login.php and I still can’t sign in. I tried other test accounts such as customer and subscriber and I can do it. It’s just the admin role that doesn’t work from there. Maybe there’s another login? But, all developers who have worked on my site have always been able to create their password and login from there, I think. What do you think it’s happening?

UPDATE: I was able to sign in in incognito and https:// request. Once I was in, my new user account has taken over my other main admin account, even after having logged out from the incognito browser.

It looks like the first account was, maybe, set up to access the hosting company. I tried to use the password I have to sign in from the wp-log, but it doesn’t work. So now I have one account that signs me in the hosting company and site, and another that lets access the site from the wp-login. But, as I said, the main issue is that once a new account with admin role is activated, I can no longer edit other accounts.

Sounds to me like a behaviour caused by some plugin or the theme. Someone must have intervened in some way. Deactivate all plugins as a test and then give it a try. Pay attention to whether you have must use plugins.

UPDATE: If I sign in with wp-login, I can edit other accounts and I’m signed in with my username, my credentials. But, now when I sign in with my host company, with the credentials I set up when I first built the account, whomever has been added as admin will be the main admin and their username is signed in.

    All the plugins are activated.
