Loop question

Ok, so I’ve been searching around for a while and haven’t found exactly what I’m looking for, combined with the fact that when it comes to php you might as well be speaking jibberish to me.

Here’s what my situation:
I’m creating a website for a group of friends who are in a band. Nothing too exciting but they asked and I agreed to help. What I have is three separate sections on one page. News, Shows, and a Misc section. They are all contained in separate div containers and on different sections of the page.

What I want to do is use one blog to keep all three of these sections updated. So if someone has new news, they choose the news category and it slaps it up under the news section. A new show? They choose the Show category and it goes up under there. I’m thinking about 5 posts per category.

I know I need a loop of some sort, but do I just need to do three separate loops? Is it as easy as that? Excuse my ignorance but I’m a wordpress idiot (which is pathetic, I know), so any help or direction would be much appreciated. Hell, if you can get a solution to me quickly I might just throw in a cash reward.
