As for the nature of the plugin, it has to fetch data from external servers. The plugin will cache the data according to the time you set in its settings.

It does not fetch this data asynchronously (WP Cron or similar). If you implement this feature, I will happily accept a patch. However, on my sites the slowdown is only minimal, thus I see no need for this functionality.
