Looking for testers – The SEO Framework 2.6.0 Alpha
-
Hi there!
I’ve just released The SEO Framework 2.6.0 alpha on GitHub.
This is a pre-release as many options still need to be added.
Transients have been disabled in this release to prevent caching conflicts, except for Sitemap Pinging (to prevent pinging penalties). Why release it already?
A huge rework/refactor was required prior to introducing new options and to prevent future bugs.
The 2.6.0 update will inevitably be release as a stable version. If you maintain multiple websites, and you are using this plugin on those, a simple overlooked thing could potentially break one of your websites.
Testing out this release on a development environment and reporting mistakes will prevent such an event. Why rework?
This plugin was initially built to be simple and sweet.
Which it still is, but not for me anymore. With every new feature I cleverly pasted its conditions in everywhere where applicable. This caused a huge mess, duplicated calls, redundant options, etc… It was time for a cleanup. This means that the plugin from 2.6.0 will be easier to maintain, will run smoother, and will be more as expected. Future updates and options can be added more pragmatically as well, without having to triple-check each change.
All with all, an easier foundation for developers. A better framework.
Feature highlights:
- WooCommerce schema.org breadcrumbs.
- Intelligently nested schema.org breadcrumbs.
- Definite schema.org website name.
- Better Automated Description sentence endings.
- Yandex Sitemap pinging support.
- Extended Title Fix extension support.
- Improved performance.
- Elastic WPML URL generation.
- Many linguistic improvements, with more flow in the SEO Bar.
- Improved editorial translations.
- Smarter and a more vibrant SEO bar, with many more conditional checks.
- Personalized error handling for developers.
- More than 120 new functions for developers. (more to come)
- WP Query Admin synchronization for developers.
- (to-do) Author Twitter and Facebook connections for posts.
- (to-do) More efficient cache key generation.
- (to-do) New Archive title prefix options.
- (to-do, maybe) New Date output options.
- (to-do, maybe) Canonical scheme protocol options.
Detailed Changelog:
Alpha Changelog (not spellchecked). This update visualized in numbers:
This rework was initiated on the 3rd of February, contains 14 commits (roughly 1 every two days), has 18386 line additions and 8982 line deletions, has about 120 new functions, and all with a netto sum of more than 110,000 new characters :).
Performance-wise? It’s 5% to 40% faster compared to 2.5.2.2, even though many more features have already been added and the code base has been increased by roughly 15%.Caring is sharing!
Let me know all about the bugs and other findings on the Alpha Changelog page or through a GitHub issue report.View 2.6.0 alpha here, download it here. Be sure to overwrite the contents of
/wp-content/plugins/autodescription/
, instead of running two versions simultaneously (which will then break your site).Use at your own risk, and please do not use it on a live production website as it’s still untested in conjunction with many other plugins. If it fails, you can update it back to 2.5.2.2 through the WordPress plugin updater (as version 2.5.2.1 has been assigned to this Alpha).
