Looking for recommendations for complex functionality needed.

  • We would like to build some very complex custom functionality to our site and would like to ask for some basic advice on this task here.

    Here’s everything we’d like the site to be able to do:

    1) We want to create new User Accounts from a form submission. This form will have custom fields where the user will provide a picture of themselves, their website URL, their address, their social media links, etc. We’d like all these custom fields to be included under the user account.

    2) The submission of this form should create a page where a vote will take place about this user. The form is an application for membership. E-mail notifications should be sent to a pre-defined list of board members and a link to the voting page should be included in these notifications. The board members will then go to this voting page and cast their vote for if this applicant should be accepted or rejected as a new member. The voting page will have all the information from their form submission that the board members will need to evaluate the application.

    3) If the board approves the applicant for membership, a new page visible on the front end should be created using the data from the various fields in their form application.

    We’d like to see what the support community thinks could be used to achieve these goals. If there are existing plugins that would accomplish any of this, please let us know. If this is something that would require extensive custom coding, then please steer us in a direction where we could get that achieved for a hopefully reasonable price.

    Also, we are currently creating the front-end user pages for all our members manually, so the pages will already exist for all past members. We’d like to see if there is any way to tie a wordpress page to a wordpress user in any way. We’ll manually create all user accounts for existing members as well. The custom functionality will be to automate this process greatly for all future applicants and approved members.

    Take a look at Gravity Forms and its ecosystem of supporting plugins. In particular look at Gravity Flow for creating an automated workflow around form submission.

    Gravity Forms alone will support #1. I’m not entirely sure about creating a voting page but Gravity Flow is very robust so it is worth looking into.

    Thanks for the tip. Every step of the way we can get with existing plugins will be one less step we need to pay for custom coding, so knowing that Gravity Forms should get us part of the way there is good to know.
