I’m needing a MailChimp plugin that will give me the option to use or not use a double optin.

MailChimp requires a double opt in, but I know there are ways around it. The plugin I’m currently using does give me that option, but when someone subscribes without the double opt in, the plugin does not update that particular email to MailChimp.

So, my question is two parts: 1) does YIKES allow me to use either a single or double optin? 2) if it does, will it update the email address to mailchimp?

    Hi TopFitnessStrategies,

    To answer your questions:

    1) Yes, this plugin allows for both double and single optins. You can also toggle the ability to update an existing subscriber. It is worth noting that the replace existing subscriber setting requires the user to send themselves an email to update their profile information – to prevent anyone from updating others details.

    2) The email address won’t be updated as that is what dictates if a user is already subscribed to a list or not. If the user submits a **new** email address, they will be viewed as a new subscriber and new details will be added to your mailing list. Any other field (outside of the email field) assigned to your list will have the ability to be updated by your subscribers.

    Thanks!

I don’t know what you mean by “you can also toggle the ability…”

More importantly, if the email address won’t be updated, what’s the point of having this plugin? Unless I’m reading this wrong, MailChimp is where my “list” is hosted, so when someone subscribes to my list, I would want them to be added to MailChimp, right? If the email is not updated, why bother with this plugin?

    What am I missing here?

    Hi There.

I think Evan is talking about members who are already subscribed to your list and you are talking about new subscribers, correct?

Yes you can choose double or single opt-in with our plugin. Please take a look at this article: https://yikesplugins.com/support/knowledge-base/opt-in-settings/

There you will see the opt-in settings. Also there is the toggle to update existing subscribers that Evan mentions.

If you choose single opt-in the user will be added to your list immediately.

Please let me know if that clarifies your questions.

    Thank you!

Thank you Tracy, I read the article and I’m thinking maybe I’m asking my question wrong.

When this plugin is set to “single optin”, will the email address still be added to my MailChimp list even though the subscriber did NOT confirm their email address? (hence, the single optin)

I ask because the plugin I’m using now does NOT add that particular email to the MailChimp email list.

Yes, if you choose single opt-in the user will be added to your list immediately.

Oh, I do have another question….

My mailchimp account has one list but has several “groups” within that list. I’m looking at your plugin and can’t seem to see where I can distinguish between groups. Is there an place with I can assign a certain group to a certain optin form?

Yup! You do that on the form editor. https://yikesplugins.com/support/knowledge-base/editing-forms/

To the right of the form builder is a block for “Form Fields and Interest Groups” Click on the Interest Groups tab and you can add them to the form.

    Thank you!
