    Hello,

I am having a frustrating time with the new 5.9 2022 template. Specifically, with the logo and navigation in the header templates disappear on me WordPress is preventing access to the two items.

This is a fresh install as I am not relying on any previous website settings. I have disabled, re-enabled plugins, cleared browser cache and even reinstalled WordPress to have some success in restoring the items in the template (still works on the frontend), but for them to sporadically disappear/loose functionality in the backend.

In the header I have applied my logo and the navigation is pulling from the two pages created which you can see on the website: https://relearning.ca/

But in the editor, the logo box is blank and the Navigation tells me “Navigation menu has been deleted or is unavailable. Create a new menu?”. See image from template

When looking at the list view is seems the logo is missing the image option and the navigation is missing the page list. View the screenshot of the list for the template.

Am I missing something or is this a bug within the new 2022 template?

Thanks for any help and suggestions.

    Corey

    Hello,

Another follow up… I was able to log in again using incognito (in Chrome). Once logged in, I went straight to the template page and the logo and navigation appeared as expected. I then went to the plugin page, changed nothing (everything is disabled) and returned to the template page and sure enough the logo and navigation are broken again.

This time, I cleared and cache, relogged in and the items are now working.

This is a strange and unreliable issue and I am curious if anyone else is experiencing this.

    Thanks

    Corey

    Hi Corey,

I am pretty new to WordPress and I have had the same issue. The FSE features are still not at the point where it is very intuitive or noob friendly, I am afraid. But I am sticking to it as I have high hopes in the future of Gutenberg and in the direction that WordPress is going.

For me, part of the issue was site caching, but the rest was I reckon not understanding how the templates work in 2022 FSE. As I was viewing it from incognito mode or another browser where the site wasn’t cached, it appeared fine, just like in your case. Not sure if it is same with you, but this is what I did:

    – Cleared all browser cache, cookies and site settings – a little bit of a pain to again log into other sites, but hey!
    – I host in Bluehost – so I changed the caching setting to the shortest one
    – Installed a caching plugin – I used WP Fastest Cache, but not necessary to use that specific one. Deleted individual page caches, site cache and minified CSS/JS
    – Went into Appearance > Editor > Clicked on Site Logo > Template Parts > selected the header that was causing issues > in List View, selected the Navigation block > Select menu > Manage menus > Deleted all but one that I wanted to use. (These seem to be empty placeholders once FSE is enabled and have no connection with Classic Menus, even if they have the same name, so can be deleted here without deleting any Classic Menu of the same name). Back in the Header, deleted the Navigation block and re-inserted it – now there’s only one. After selecting the Navigation block in the list view, clicked on the (+) sign on bottom right of the block to Add Block > Page List.
    – This brought back the pages into the navigation.
    – As for the logo, again removed and added the block back and selected the image.

I think there is a bit of a learning curve to FSE, as with any new setup. I have been using 5.9 since beta and still figuring the little nuances out.

Hope this helps you and wish you happy designing!

    All the best.

    Hi Corey,

I also found this useful video on the navigation block in Learn WordPress
How to Create a Menu with the Navigation Block.

    Hope you find this useful.

Please post an update on what you did to resolve the issue.

    Hi Rupak,

Truth be told I was so fed up with this issue, I needed to walk away from the build.

Thank you for the input and suggestions. My trouble isn’t building the website, it is elements in the templates that I add or change (like the logo, header navigation, post repeater) will periodically stop working and look like they are being loaded.

I’ll start a new thread and see if other users are encountering this.

    Hi,

I used to have the same issue, until I found there wasn’t a problem with the site or the theme, the problem is that the new editor require more resources from the navigator, the server and the pc you are using to edit, so, when the editor detects low resources anywhere it puts some blocks as “no editable”, in my case, the logo doesn’t show, the navigation menú not shown and says “You have no permission to edit menus” and the loops loads forever. For me, the solution was asking my hosting provider to enable the “opcache” php extension to enhance the server side, and edit the header alone, go to Appearance / editor / “W logo” / template parts / header(whatever you use) to see the header alone, if the logo and navigation still not shown, just reload the page and there should be, shown and ready to edit. Important, check the hosting panel when editing to be sure the server resources are free, because the server runs some task in the background and could be using resources even if we don’t do anything. This issue is a minor compared to the whole new possibilities of editing the block theme as you wish, I think. Hope this helps.

Does anybody has an idea on how to add a background-image in the header in custom header template-part of WordPress 5.9 2022?

    Solved it.

@danielcti Hi, I have exactly your same problems in my WP. I think the “opcache” in my server is enabled (https://imgur.com/Lk5VBkk). have you any other suggestion? tnx.
