Logo and Header Overlay

I’m a newbie here, and this problem seems incredibly easy, but I can’t figure out the solution.

I’m using the theme Canvas and the problem I’m running into is that my logo overlays my header. If I delete the logo, then the name of the site appears over the header. When I make the header the logo and leave the header field blank, there is a lot of space between the header and the navbar.

Here’s what I would like –

I don’t need to have the logo up there so long as I have the header, but A) I don’t want the text of the site name to show up and B) I want the navbar to nearly touch the header. I don’t know if this is a setting in the padding or where I need to go, but nothing I try seems to work.
