  • Yes, I use it, and the Dashboard link you have mentioned is possibly coming from the default Meta widget you have yet to remove from wherever it is being displayed.

Sorry Lee, but that terminology is still beyond me. I have not used any meta widget (tahta I know of). Where should I look?

Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets, then see what widgets you have in your sidebar or footer or wherever. The Meta widget is the default WordPress widget with links to the Dashboard and other places.

I think you are right. Earlier on I tried that one by putting it in the sidebar but then I deleted it. Do you think it is creating a problem with this new one. What can I do?

First save a Bookmark or Favorite for your Dashboard so you can always get back in if there is no login showing at the front of your site. Then remove the Meta widget by dragging it out of wherever it is, and that should leave you with no login showing. At that point, re-activate Theme My Login and go through its many options until you get what you want…and you might have even more to do to get activation e-mails working. I am no expert at these things, but i might be able to help spare you some of the many hours I spent when I first began sorting all this out for myself.

    Thanks Lee

Now I don’t know what is a bookmark, but can’t i get in through the url? I would then be asked for the WP password. No?

The Meta widget is not in the sidebar. It was earlier on today but I deleted it fromt he sidebar and now it is sitting among the other available widgets. Do you mean that i should uninstall it altogether? Hiow do you do that?

    Thank you for your patience

I have just realized that I should have dragged the Meta widget out of the sidebar into the Inactive widgets area, rather than press the delete button. Maybe that’s where things started to go wrong.

Drag widgets from here to a sidebar on the right to activate them. Drag widgets back here to deactivate them and delete their settings.

Maybe the best is to remove Theme My Login, place the Meta back in the sidebar and then take it out by dragging it as I should have done, That hopefully delete their settings and I can start again with Theme Log In

    What do you think?

The matter of the Bookmark or Favorite is to save a link in your browser for logging in somewhere other than at your site’s primary URL.

You had mentioned having a Dashboard link showing at the front of your site, and I must have been wrong in assuming that was coming from the Meta widget. So, and if that was the little cluster for Login/Logout, Dashboard and Profile, those will go away when you get a redirect working after Login and tell Theme My Login to not show itself after login.

edit: No, just dragging the Meta widget away is sufficient.

I’ve just gone through the routine of taking out Theme, putting back Meta, and taking this out ptoperly, but nothing has changed. I have redirected verubody to a third party’s link but it now comes back to the main login page. Strangely after logging in the Edit button shows up on other computers, which means the widget thinks they are the administator!

As for the Login/logout, dashboard and Profile going away after the redirect. they don’t because it does not obey the redirection.

Redirection does not do that. Redirection only sends a logged-in user to the front (or wherever you have it set). To make that cluster go away, go to the Theme My Login widget and tell it to not show itself after login (as I recall).

There is something else that I don’t understand and left blank. Maybe that’s causing the problem: permalinks. In the settings there is one for login, register, and lost password.

do you think this may be causinga problem?

As I had mentioned earlier, I use Peter’s Login Redirect for that, so I do not know what to tell you there.

It’s 3 am here and i need to get up early tomorrow. Thank you for everything. If you’re still around tomorrow, I would be very grateful if we could try and sort this out.

meanwhile what si Peter’s Login redirect?

    Good night

I check in here at various times throughout the day, and I will gladly help wherever I can. For myself, Theme My Login, Peter’s Login Redirect, WP Admin No Show and Admin Bar Minimiser are four plugins that coordinate perfectly so I can display everything needed both before and after login to any user or group of users of my own choosing. All but Admins are sent to the front, then some still have access to the back where others do not.
