I’ve created a new website under the domain byjen.eu and installed the plugin Wordfence for protection. Before I had installed that plugin I was always able to log into my WordPress backend without any issues with my login credentials. Now after installing that plugin I can’t log into the backend anymore. Everytime I try to log in with my credentials (which are 100% correct and haven’t been changed) I receive the following error message:
VERIFICATION REQUIRED: Additional verification is required for login. If there is a valid account for the provided login credentials, please check the email address associated with it for a verification link to continue logging in.
After providing my email address I never receive any email with a verification link (yes, I also checked in the spam folder and I tried all possible email addresses already).
Is there any way how I can get my access to the backend back and/or remove that plugin from my website? Is it enough to delete the plugin folder in the FTP or will it break something?
Thanks in advance for the help!

    Hi @jenleed,

The “Verification Required” emails are sent when Google reCAPTCHA believes the login was automated and not from a human user.? If you’re not receiving the verification emails, you can deactivate Wordfence temporarily by renaming the Wordfence plugin folder using https://FTP.? Once you’re logged in, please ensure Wordfence is fully up-to-date and then reactivate it, as some changes were made to reCAPTCHA in recent versions.

If you’re still having issues logging in once Wordfence is updated, you can test the reCAPTCHA scores you’re receiving.  In Wordfence > Login Security > Settings > reCAPTCHA, enable Run reCAPTCHA in test mode.  When this option is enabled, the CAPTCHA will record scores in the chart above but it will not block bots or visitors. This is intended to be used for a short period to decide on whether you need to adjust the threshold or to check for conflicts with other plugins or themes. You can read more about test mode at https://www.wordfence.com/help/login-security/#recaptcha

If you’re on a static IP, you might also consider allowlisting your IP address. To allowlist an IP address, navigate to Wordfence > Login Security > Settings > General and add your IP address to the “Allowlisted IP addresses that bypass 2FA and reCAPTCHA” text box. Remember to Save your settings.

    Thanks,
    Margaret
