Using the Profile Builder login widget in a sidebar, every time I login I get an email verification challenge:

VERIFICATION REQUIRED: Additional verification is required for login. Please check the email address associated with the account for a verification link.

I can’t find any setting to tone that down. What might be causing this and how can I relax it?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @jwmc

Since this looks a lot like a conflict with some other code, the first recommended step is the conflict test:

??*Briefly* disable all other plugins and enable the default Twenty Twenty theme. Please also disable all add-ons. If this fixes the problem, as it probably will, enable everything one by one, checking each time to see when the problem returns.

Please let us know when you find the conflict so that we can take a look and see what we can do about it.

OK. I tried to use Health Check & Troubleshooting’s troubleshooting mode, but of course when I log out the troubleshooting environment is gone.

So I took a chance and just tried deactivating Wordfence first. Bingo! I could log in through the widget without the verification challenge.

    Hi Jim,

I have installed & activated the free version of WordFence on my test rig, and tried our login widget, but got no such problem.

Did you do something in the WordFence settings that I could also do so I can reproduce the problem? Please let me know if you have any ideas.

(The first step to solving a conflict is reproducing it.)

An alternative work-around would be to not use our login widget, but instead a regular text widget with our login shortcode.

    https://www.cozmoslabs.com/docs/profile-builder-2/shortcodes/#Create_a_Front_End_Login_Form

    Perhaps that would work better.

Thank you for trying to reproduce that. I think what might be required to reproduce it is setting up recaptcha in the Login Security settings of Wordfence.

Honestly I’m not sure if it’s a Wordfence or PB widget issue. But it only happens in the widget, not in the normal WordPress login (which is covered by recaptcha).

I know it’s a big pain to get those keys from Google if you don’t have them already (it requires the Google reCAPTCHA v3 Service), so I’ll look into that other option for now.

Oh, it’s great that you mentioned reCAPTCHA v3.

We still don’t have that implemented yet, only v2 — so this might very well be the case.

Turns out the Wordfence recaptcha feature only supports the native WordPress login form. Unfortunate that it isn’t more universal. Thanks for your time.

    Hi Jim,

I am sorry to hear, I hope that you can find an easy way to deal with this.

    With best of regards,
    Gabriel
