    Hi,

I’m hosting a website with Cpanel + wordpress and I am using the Wordfence Security plugin.
This week, without any manual intervention, I stopped being able to login to my website or the wordpress dashboard: all website url (including /wp-admin) redirected to the login page. And the login page itself, seems to point toward the same endpoint and refresh itself indifinetely while trying to validate credentials.

If I access the plugins via Cpanel file_manager and deactivate the wordfence security plugin manually then the website start working again as usual.

I’m using the Version 7.5.8 and wordpress 5.9.
I have few plugins with auto-update on, so it may have cause the issue, but none are listed on the plugin conflict page: https://www.wordfence.com/help/advanced/plugin-theme-conflicts/

I’ve followed the advises available here: https://www.wordfence.com/help/blocking/troubleshooting/

But nothing is working so far and as soon as I reactivate the plugin in the wordpress dashboard, I’m kicked out to the log-in page. So no way for me to access the diagonistic tools or wordfence logs.

Do you have any idea on what may have cause the issue and how to fix it ?
I’m ready to try anythings, so do not hesitate to reach out for more information.
We love Wordfence and wish to keep using it as soon as possible.

    Thanks for your help,
    Thomas

Hi @thomaseh, thanks for reaching out to us!

We have seen something similar with Cannot modify header information - headers already sent errors, where loading the /wp-admin URL loads the administration screen but it looks like you have already tried this. Naturally it’s tough to request a diagnostic when this is happening as soon as the plugin is enabled on your environment.

Would it be possible to send the login URL to us at wftest @ wordfence . com with your forum username in the subject? Let me know here when you have sent it. We may be able to see if any other plugin assets are loading on the login page that might provide a clue of a conflict.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

    Hi @wfpeter !
Thanks for your answer !!! ??

I just sent you an email with our login page url and the list of our current plugins and versions.

By looking at your documentation, it seems that I missed the section with troubleshooting with the Wordfence Assistant plugin. I’ll try it tonight.

    Have a good day,
    Thomas

I downgraded the plugin version to the 7.5.7 and it works just fine.

If you have any idea of why this error have appeared with the 7.5.8, or want any information on my side, do not hesitate to contact me.

My bad, the plugin have been updated to 7.5.8

But that does confirm that the issue is indeed with this latest version

    Hi @thomaseh,

Has the plugin updated again since our original conversation and continued this behavior? I checked your plugin information as sent to us and can’t see anything that immediately sticks out aside from WP Rocket which required some intervention in some recent cases regarding the “Remove Unused CSS” feature.

The above would normally be fixed by spending around a week in Learning Mode but I’m not convinced this is the issue here.

To test for a plugin conflict occurring elsewhere, you could try running Wordfence with a default theme such as Twenty Twenty-One and all other plugins disabled. If you’re able to save changes with nothing else active, re-enable everything else one-by-one until the saving issue reoccurs. If you can’t get the page to work properly under any conditions, by all means take a look at your browser console and use a service like Snipboard to screenshot any red error messages you may be seeing there.

    Thanks again,

    Peter.
