Login popup issue

In the login pop-up, if I write anything and click “Sign In”, instead of an error message appearing, nothing happens. In fact, the page is refresh. If I try to refresh the page, I get the message “The page you are looking for used the information you entered. Returning to this page may cause any action you took to be repeated. Do you want to continue?”

How do I show the tutor login error in the popup:

Error: the user “username” is not registered on this site. If you’re not sure about your username, try your email address.
