Login page just refreshes in *most* situations

    I have been having a problem that I just cannot grasp.

    On multiple and completely unrelated WordPress installations with different plugins, versions, hosts, etc. I am not able to log in via /wp-admin. The page appears to simply refresh when I attempt to log in, creating an endless login attempt loop. This is the case on multiple computers and browsers, as well as while using a VPN or mobile network. The only way I am able to log into the sites I am trying to work on is by mobile browser, or Palemoon which only shows a blank screen when attempting to add new pages, (mobile seems to work, though). While troubleshooting with web hosts, they were able to log in without experiencing the problem. I’ve tried clearing browser caches, as well as logging in with freshly installed browsers I’ve never even used before, and get the login page loop in all cases but those I mentioned.

    It sounds like your LAN security settings might be too tight, where the required authorization cookie is not received by the server as would normally be the case. If so, the hang up is likely in your router or gateway’s firewall settings.

    Since host tech support don’t experience the problem, it’s almost certainly something on your end. Since you’ve already tried multiple clients, the only thing that could possibly be left in common is the LAN firewall.

    Thank you for the fast replay; sorry for my late response – I had thought I would be getting an email notification. Anyway, your advice put me in the right direction and I believe I have resolved the issue. The problem seems to be Bitdefender antivirus which is installed on both of my computers. This also explains why I can log in on Linux, but not on Windows 10. Deactivating Protection Shield has allowed me to log in, so it seems I need to create an exception.

    No worries. You are subscribed to this topic, the email did go out, but email from this site often gets misdirected somewhere along the way. I’m just glad you found the problem. It’d be interesting to know what set off anti-virus, but we’ll likely never know, nor would it really tell us anything useful. I’m just curious by nature ??
