2 different questions …
The second one: it is up to you to find a plugin or html code to create buttons with links behind them (there are plugins on wordpress that give you easy button codes)
The first one: EME uses the wp user backend to check for logged in access, but maybe your wp user has no right to upload images. That is up to you to check.

No file editing should be done (it will be removed when you update the plugin).
Use [eme_calendar] on a regular page (read this on the special event page: https://www.e-dynamics.be/wordpress/category/documentation/3-installation-and-usage/ )
And above/below [eme_calendar] you can put your own buttons where and how you want.
