Login loop bug – tried all online solutions

  • The following problem has only started happening recently due to no changes that I can think of…

    When logging in to the dash with the correct password I get immediately redirected back to the login page with no message or error.

    I have researched this for hours and have seen many similar cases so let me outline what I have tried.

    Info:

    1 – the site is https
    2 – I have tried disabling ALL plugins
    3 – I have checked wp_options and made sure https is used
    4 – I have tried deleting all cookies, files and history cache etc
    5 – This problem only happens sometimes and varies between all browsers
    6 – I am NOT running a multi domain installation of WP
    7 – I am running WP version 3.1.2, upgrading from 3.1.1 did nothing to help this issue
    8 – This problem is not limited to my computer alone
    9 – The password is DEFINITELY correct, if I enter the wrong password it fails with a message as it should
    10 – This happens with all users, not just myself
    11 – I have tried downloading a fresh wp-config file which actually was slightly different to mine, I updated it with the relevant info but still no luck
    12 – Sometimes there is no redirect but rather a 404 error for the admin page

    I have read almost every solution online… no cigar.
