I am an admin of a members website that utilises Buddypress and S2Member to lock the site down to only selected individuals.

The site has been working fine, but for some reason lately all other admins who login get the insufficent permissions message coming up. They are being redirected to /wp-admin but for some reason anyone that is admin, editor, contributor, author can’t get to the dashboard. If they go to add a new post the backend will display and they can navigate from there anywhere in the wordpress backend. But even then if they click on Dashboard it gives the same message.

I have updated all plugins. I have tried diabling the plugins and using a generic theme but nothing changes this weird issue.

I am an admin and it doesn’t happen to me. Only accounts that I have marked as admin through to author. Subscribers don’t get any problems they are redirected to the home page.

    Helps please.

what happens if you disable ALL plugins and at the same time switch to the unedited Twenty Fourteen default theme?

Nothing, still does the same thing.

    – Check the error logs on your server for a more specific error message. If you need help locating them, ask your hosting provider to help you with that.

    This has been fixed.

After a lot of searching I found that for some reason the wp_capabiities were not set correctly on my database.

After copying and pasting the correct information it worked properly.

So the fix was to go to the database > wp_usermeta and update the wp_capabilities section for the corresponding users.

I have no idea why this happened.
