Login in Settings tab isn’t working

    I’ve just set up my login for backups but it’s not working.

    I wish I could share the screenshot here, so have to type the error message instead:

    “FTP settings test result: Failure: we did not successfuly log in with those credentials.

    Messages:
    PHP event: code E_Warning: ftp_login(): Login authentication failed (line 46, wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/inludes/ftp.class.php)”

    The login information is correct, however I’m not sure about the remote path.

    It’s for my main site (hosted by siteground) and so I’ve tried all variations, such as:
    /public_html
    /public_html
    /public_html/jesslohmann.com

    Nothing works.

    But it IS working on one of my other sites which is /public_html/ethicalbrandmarketing.com

    There is a folder: ethicalbrandmarketing.com within /public_html which is my main site: jesslohmann.com if that makes sense. I’m not sure why it’s set up like that, but I think siteground did that.

    Can you please help?

    Hi,

    Apologies for the delay.

    Please can you double check and make sure that the credentials are correct? Also, check that the connection is not blocked by a firewall or any security plugins? Lastly, try using “public_html/jesslohmann.com” as the folder path.

    The login & PW are correct.
    https://ftp.jesslohmann.com is the ftp server.

    I deactivated Titan Anti-spam & Security, Wordfence & W3 Total Cache (a common culprit).

    I tried all of these combinations:
    public_html/jesslohmann.com
    public_html
    /public_html/jesslohmann.com
    /public_html/
    /public_html

    The plugin won’t update either.
    I’ve just reinstalled it so this is the first update since the reinstall.

    However, like I wrote initially, it works for /public_html/ethicalbrandmarketing.com with a different login & pw on the same ftp server. AND, it updated on that website too.

    So, something’s wrong with it finding jesslohmann.com on my root server…

    Funny thing, I had this plugin installed and it worked just fine in 2017, but I’ve just now realized that I didn’t have ANY backups since then, didn’t know I was working that insecurely all the time, so that’s why I reinstalled it as soon as I found out!!!

    Do you have any other ideas? Thank you so much!

    Hi,

    Please ask with your host/server admin there any firewalls activate on your server that causes the connection to get blocked?

    Check if either ‘mod_security’ or ‘Suhosin’ installed and active on the webserver?

    We have found that these security modules can cause conflict.
