I am getting login error when I know my username and password are correct. On the first attempt to login I get an error saying “Too many failed login attempts.”

I have been using this plugin for a while, and love it, but this is something new. I haven’t changed the settings, I have had the same settings. I have gone through my settings trying to find an answer but can’t find anything that might cause this. I thought maybe with an update a new feature was added that I missed.

I am using the User Login Lockdown Feature, but I have always used this without an issue like this. I do like this feature and would prefer to keep it active.

Any ideas of what could be causing this issue?

    Thank you.

Hi, can you elaborate a bit more in regards to your comment.

On the first attempt to login I get an error saying “Too many failed login attempts.”

How many times do you attempt to log in?

Do you have more than one Admin login into your site?

    Yes, multiple admins.

People that are not admins get this same error though.

So how many times do you attempt to log in before you are allowed to log in?

Are any of the other Admins locked out of the system? Are you currently using the Whitelist feature in the plugin?

Yes, users are getting locked out as well. It is not just an admin issue.

I use the plugin on multiple sites and am having the problem on them. Most sites have two admins and one lower level access. Many of them are having this issue.

I am not using the whitelist feature.

Hi, can you check the plugin log files and also the server log files.

    Thank you

Not sure what you mean, I don’t know where to check that.

I have narrowed it down to being an update issue I think. I have a site that where it was working like it should and then when I updated the plugin it is having that issue now.

When I logged out and then logged back in it this message:

    ERROR: Incorrect username or password.

ERROR: Too many failed login attempts. Please try again in 1 minute.

Is the update changing something or adding a new feature that is altering the current settings?

    Thanks.

    Update.

I tried to reset the plugin settings by using this link: https://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/all-in-one-wp-security-reset-settings-plugin

I select settings in the instructions after I install the new plugin and it takes me to a screen saying ‘Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page.’

I really like this plugin and use it on all the sites I create, what can I do to correct this login issue I am having?

    Thanks.

Okay check to make sure your IP address is not blocked.

To check the log files go to Dashboard -> AIOWPS Logs and then go to Filesystem Security -> Host System Logs.

    Report back with any findings.

I had to go through FTP access to disable the plugin and then when I login to the site and reactivate the plugin to see the logs it kicks me out.

I had to give up on this website. I have plenty more websites that I use this plugin on so I will have to figure this out. When I get a log from them I will post it here. I had to uninstall this plugin on a few websites already and replace it with Wordfence, which is an okay plugin but I like this plugin much better when it is working. Not trying to talk the plugin down, I like this plugin a lot. I create websites for other people and I have to give them a working solution fast, I cant figure things out and make them suffer while I do. If it was my own website it would be no big deal taking my time figuring it out.

I did go to my site and I don’t see the option for Filesystem Security > Host System Logs.

I see a drop down for Log File and the two options are wp-security-log and wp-security-log-cron-job.

I am not having an issue logging into my website though.

    Thanks.

Hi, I am also curious to know why it is not working on those particular sites. In regards to your comment.

I did go to my site and I don’t see the option for Filesystem Security > Host System Logs.

What plugin version are you running? If you don’t see that tab then there is something wrong with your installation or your website set up. There might be a plugin conflict of such.

    Regards

I have the same issue. My main login works, but every other that I create shows this error. I know that the password is correct, but it still shows this error message. Do you know how to fix it?

@serlak2007, can you start a new support thread.

    Thank you
