We are getting the login error message:

ERROR: An error was encountered while trying to authenticate. Please try again.”

We believe this began when we enabled: Enable reCAPTCHA on the login and user registration pages.

When we renamed the WF directory we could then login. We do not have 2fa enabled.

When we restore the WF directory we cannot disable the “recaptcha the login and user registration pages” setting.

  • My users are getting message “ERROR: Your account is not approved” on login.

And when anyone searching by category, product, address, or any other criteria it is not showing any results. When I tried to add a new user as customer or service provider or any other category are also behave like the old users already registered. I tried user registration plugins but they not worked, Cleared Cache, Even I tried to add old user details from dashboard but after I save all details I added they were gone automatically. I don’t understand what is going on with my website. Please anybody help me.

Hi @tonyrwest, thanks for getting in touch.

Normally renaming the Wordfence folder, logging in as normal, then renaming the folder would just restore Wordfence to its pre-2FA state. I’ve not seen the setting become stuck before, although it is normal for 2FA to be reconfigured after taking this step.

Our Login Security features (reCAPTCHA and 2FA) will work only with WordPress and WooCommerce’s default login/registration pages so issues could occur if you have custom forms such as modal pop-ups, or other user management plugins installed. If this doesn’t apply to you, try disabling your other plugins except for Wordfence to see if your logins work as intended. If they do, try re-enabling your other plugins one-by-one until you start seeing issues occur with the login process. There may be a plugin conflict causing script errors on your login page.

    Thanks,
    Peter.
