I updated some plug-ins on the site and now I cannot enter either the website itself or via the admin log-in (as I get the same message: “The connection was reset.”). I therefore cannot disable the plug-in via the administration panel as I cannot log in. Can someone help?

*is there any issue with your SSL certificate?
    test using: https://www.whynopadlock.com/

*can you access your files via webhosting account cpanel or via FTP (like Filezilla)? if yes, then it is possible to deactivate plugin(s) by temporarily renaming their folder(s) to help you get access to WordPress dashboard for further troubleshooting.

I suggest you to disable plugins manually. Using an FTP manager or your cPanel file manager, temporarily rename the plugins folder.

Thank you both for quick responses.

Regarding the SSL certificate it did tell me that there was an issue and that it could not update. I told the site to override. Could this be causing the issue?

Unfortunately I have no other access to the site via webhosting. Is there any other way that I can manually disable plug-ins?
I have no idea what an FTP manager is, sorry. So any further guidance on how to do so will be much appreciated

The only way I know to access anything on the website is via the WordPress admin log-in. We are a small voluntary association.

This tool might be helpful to figure out which webhosting company is hosting your site so you can contact them to ask for assistance to access your files. Your webhosting company may also be able to give guidance about SSL certificate.

That’s seem wrong. Any hosting provider should give you a file manager or FTP access. Talk with their tech support, tell them about the issue and possible fixes.
