• My website is abhikmukherjee.com

    Usually I login using abhikmukherjee.com/wp-admin

This redirects me to a page with a grey drop down at the top that asks me to authenticate. Until today the drop drown told me to type a string of letters (something like YuoWhhi) into the user name and to give the result of 24+1 as the password.

When I did that I was then redirected to a login page where I could put in my username/email and password and then proceed to my dashboard.

Today, however, I got the same grey drop down but with the message: “https://abhikmukherjee.com requires a user name and password. Your connection to this site is not private.”

There is not, however, a prompt for the user name and password like before. When I enter the actual username and password for the site (not the one I used to get prompted with) it doesn’t work.

I’ve have already cleared my cookies and cache.

    What do I do next?

    Thank you.
    Erica

This is a password request from the web server. Do you have a plugin that sets a password in .htaccess? Has your host implented a pre-login login?

Sterndata – thanks. Based on your questions I was able to determine the problem with my server’s host and contact them for a fix.

@ericamukh – Did this solve your problem? I have the same problem at the moment, should i contact my server host?
