• I changed the path to my wp-admin. I’m able to access the login screen and connect, but now I can’t access my dashboard. Clicking on the blog name in the upper left corner does nothing now.

When I try to go directly to the ADMIN via the location (either with the new admin URL or the old one) I get redirected to the login screen.

1- I have disabled the plugin via FTP
2- I have edited the htaccess and the wp-config back to their original form

And yet I’m still locked out.

    What can I do?

  • You’re lucky. This last update just completely bricked my site. My entire site is down.

I also tried disabling the plugin via FTP and modifying the HTACCESS file but to no avail.

Looks like iThemes completely wiped out the contents of my WP-CONFIG.PHP file. There is only a single line item for iThemes regarding SSL. Nothing else in that file.

    Hi,

@coffeehero – What did you edit in the files? What version are you currently running?

@diggisaur – What version were you previously on? And which version did you update to?

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    Hi Gerroald,

    I went from version 6.4.0 to 6.5.0 I believe.

    WordPress 4.8.1 on PHP 7.1.6.

I had to restore my wp-config.php file and then I was able to get back in. As mentioned, my entire wp-config.php file only contained this.

// BEGIN iThemes Security – Do not modify or remove this line
// iThemes Security Config Details: 2
define( ‘FORCE_SSL_ADMIN’, true ); // Force SSL for Dashboard – Security > Settings > Secure Socket Layers (SSL) > SSL for Dashboard
// END iThemes Security – Do not modify or remove this line

I restored the original .htaccess and wp-config.php. This had no effect when I posted this ticket. I was logged in, but with no access to my dashboard. I tried 3 different browsers.

Hours later now, I am able to connect to my dashboard. The plugin is disabled and soon will be deleted.

If you would like to replicate my issue, the 2 areas of the plugin I focused on:
    1- changed “wp-admin” to “_cms3000”
    2- changed userId=1

    This combo was problematic.

    Hi,

@diggisaur – Do you have a backup of the original wp-config.php file before you updated?

@coffeehero – If you reenable Security do you still experience this issue?

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

I’m not activating this plugin again. Especially not this version. Fool me once…

    @gerroald

Unfortunately, not. I just realized my backup plugin was not backing up the WordPress core. I have since corrected that. But unfortunately, I don’t have anything to reference against. I had to rebuild from the wp-config-sample file.

    Hi,

@diggisaur – Thanks for the update. We’re digging in to see what could cause this. Do you by chance have any caching plugins? If so, which one(s)?

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    Hey Gerroald,

I am using WP Super Cache. I am also using Autoptimize and a CDN if that makes any difference.

    Hi,

Thanks for the update. Please do let me know if it happens again. Please make sure to make a backup before the update, and save the actual broken file if possible.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

    Hey Gerroald,

I found a backup of my wp-config.php file from a couple of months ago.

    I can email it over.
