Logfiles for PayPal orders not loading

One of the last updates changed how the log files are shown under Woocommerce > Status. Now, the logfiles for PayPal transactions won’t load anymore. The daily logfile is around 5 MB big. The browser tab will freeze. I can’t even download it. We really need this information. For test purposes I tried an absolutely clean browser in private mode. Doesn’t change anything. We can’t test this on the staging server, since we don’t have real orders there. Please understand, that we CANNOT deactivate all plugins in a live shop.
Can I somehow directly save the data from the file system or the database. I don’t care very much about user friendliness right now. I just need the data.
However, you should check the issue under real life conditions. A staging site does not generate enough data.

Thank you for your message. I understand how vital are logs, and we’ll be happy to help you access them. To do that, we need to learn first about your system, and which PayPal payment gateway you’re using, as well as plugin versions.
To do this, can you please send us a copy of your System Status Report? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status > Get system report > Copy for support. You can copy and paste your reply here or paste it via https://gist.github.com/ and send the link here.
Once we have more information, we’ll be able to assist you further.

Just for reference (for now), please note that you can also consider using a plugin like?Health Check & Troubleshooting. This is a plugin developed by the WordPress community, and it is helpful to disable plugins without affecting your current site visitors.

It sounds like the size of the file might be causing the browser to freeze. However, could you try increasing the PHP Post Max Size from 200 MB to 2 GB and the PHP Time Limit from 30 to 1200 and see whether it resolves the issue or not?
If this makes no difference, as a workaround, you could access the log files directly from your server. The log files are typically stored in the “wp-content/uploads/wc-logs/“ directory in your WordPress installation.

the maximal execution time can’t be increased to 1200 seconds. I increased it to the possible max of 300 seconds. This didn’t change anything.
I forgot to mention: This had never happen with the old log file system.
Why are the log files so enormously huge? When we used the Paypal API V2 and this payment plugin, the daily log file was way below 100 kB. We had to switch back to V1 and the built-in Paypal feature of Woocommerce. Now, we have at least one 5 MB file per day. On busy days even 4 or 5 such files are created. A file contains almost 100.000 lines of text.

I’ve been trying to replicate the issue you’re experiencing, but it seems to work perfectly on all my testing sites. Even all the log file sizes are also very small.

Additionally, as a temporary workaround, you may downgrade to an older version that used to work on your site using the WP Rollback plugin.

Thanks for sharing your log files. I’ve downloaded the log file you shared, uploaded it, and then navigated to WooCommerce > Status > Logs with no problems.

I am not quite sure that your clip shows the whole story. It seems that you couldn’t navigate to the very end of the log file. The content suddenly stops. Can you see this part at the end?

I have uploaded the same log file to my test site and was able to recreate the problem you are having.
The browser tab freezes between line number 140 to 150 and then crashes.
Here is the video of the file viewed in the WooCommerce logs.
I am going to review this issue further and if necessary will also create a bug report. I appreciate your cooperation and your efforts to note and report this issue.
