• I have no trouble logging in and out of the admin panel but I keep getting a 500 error every time I try logging out after placing a comment on the site: 500 – Internal server error. Once I log out of the admin panel and return to the site, the right side bar is pushed halfway down the page with the message: “You must log in to comment.” I log back in, submit my comment, and when I click on the log out link, same thing: 500 – Internal server error. Can someone please tell me why this is happening, and how to fix? — thanks.

  • Most 500 – Internal Server errors are related to issues with the .htaccess file. Has anything changed on your blog which might have impacted this file? You can recreate this file by: 1) deleting it. 2) Recreate WP permalinks.

Hate to sound so ignorant – I’m a neebie here. Can you tell me where I can locate this file?… — much thanks!

The .htaccess file generally sits in the root of the WordPress install. This holds true for servers running Apache – not sure about IIS.

It’s probably safe for you to:

    1) Delete this file (backup first of course).

    2) Recreate permalinks in wordpress (this action will automatically recreate a new .htaccess file).
