• I have been asked to be the webmaster for a WP site.
–I was given the username and password from the owner, I cannot lo-in she can log-in
–I asked her to make me a new user… I cannot log-in she can log-in
In both cases the error message is that there is no such username, when asked to reset the password, the message is that there is no such email…

I manage many WP sites… no problem, this is a first…
    any clues?
    thanks

  • If that’s the error message then it sounds like you have been given the wrong username. Did your client email it to you or tell you over the phone? You should double-check that you have the correct spelling.

If you have access to the database, check in the wp_users table and see what the actual username is.

    Thank you Michael,
No, I was given the info in writing, and we have tried it many times to no avail. I even gave the access code to a friendly third party, and he did manage to open the admin, with the same info that is not working for me.
Question: is there anywhere in WP any module that could be blocking certain IP addresses?
    thanks,
    Peter

Not unless there a plugin installed that could block in IP – such as Bad Behaviour.
