I have installed the registration form plugin and set it so that login on wp-admin will redirect to the login page. I started with Captcha v3 but it didn’t seem to be working, so I changed to v2. Now, when I go to the login page, the message ‘ERROR for site owner: Invalid key type’ appears in the captcha box. I did not change the keys so I’m puzzled as to why this error has occurred.

This means that I am unable to login at all so can’t make any changes on the WP dashboard!! Has anyone got a solution?

    Thanks

  • a suggestion, did you change the site and secret recaptcha keys when you changed from v3 to v2? as far as i know they are different.

captcha seems to be making alot of problems for the devs lately, hopefully they are aware of it and can come up with a fix soon.

    Good luck.

Thanks chippas, you’ve hit the nail on the head! Yes, I kept the same keys.

I have cPanel access to the site so could edit the files with File Manager and the DB with phpMyAdmin, so if anybody knows where the setting for using Captcha is kept, I’d be grateful if they’d tell me.

    Thanks

    Pete

p.s. already being bombarded by people telling me they can’t log on to edit/add to the site!!……..

    Hi @bruchlag,

You can find the settings and all the steps related to the captcha in this documentation https://docs.wpeverest.com/docs/user-registration/google-recaptcha-integration/
I hope it helps. And if it doesn’t feel free to get back to us. We would love to help you.

    Regards!

    Hi @sharmadpk03

I’m afraid that documentation doesn’t help – I can’t log in due to the error mentioned above so have no access to the dashboard. I need to know where, in the plugin files, the settings for captcha are stored so that I can then go in and change them directly. When that is done, I should, hopefully, be able to login and change the captcha settings for the plugin correctly.

If you could tell me where these settings are stored, I’d be grateful.

    Regards

    Peter

    Hi @bruchlag,

If you have access to the cPanel then browse for the folder named wp-content and inside it, you will find a folder called Plugins. Open it and you will find a folder named User Registration. Just delete the folder and then you will be able to log in from https://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin

After you are logged in, reinstall the plugin and activate it. After that uncheck the “Prevent Core Login” option from the plugin settings. Now, setup Recaptcha according to the documentation and once everything works well, you can enable the previously disabled “Prevent Core Login” Option.

Also, no data will be deleted when you delete the plugin folder so do not worry about data loss.

Let me know if that helped or not.

    Regards!

    Hi @sharmadpk03

Worked perfectly!! I suspected I might have to delete the folder containing the plugin, but didn’t want to take the risk.

    Thanks again.

    Regards

    Peter
