    Hi all,

I recently transitioned away from clef two factor authentication as it is being discontinued. I recently went back to a standard username and password login and reset my details. However, i’ve just tried to log in and exceeded the amount of attempts allowed.

I think this is down to the iThemes security plugin I am running with a custom login URL. I attempted to disable the plugin via FTP which restored the site.

However, I cant access any login screens now neither at my custom login slug or wp-admin…. I’m not sure how clear this is but if anyone has any ideas how I can have the iThemes security plugin disabled but still access some form of backend login page it would be very helpful.. obviously there is a conflict at the moment!

    Thanks in advance

    Jake

  • Navigate to the plugins directory via FTP (wp-content>plugins). There you will find a list of all plugins used on your website. Locate the iThemes folder and changed the name to something else (it’s a good idea to append something for future reference — e.g. “deactivate-ithemes”). This will deactivate the plugin.

    Hey Jake,

Have you tried temporarily renaming the wp-content folder (which disables all the plugins)? Then trying to login via https://yoursite.dev/wp-login.php

Renaming wp-content will pretty much disable everything and not only plugins…

    Thankyou all for your responses.

I have renamed the iThemes folder to something else which has seemingly deactivated it and now the site is back up and running. However, I now cannot reach any form of back end login interface, please see link below for what I am presented with when I try and log in.

I feel like this may have something to do with the fact that I also use iThemes to change the site backed login slug and when the plugin is disabled it is confusing it somewhat..

    ??

    Thanks again for any solutions

If you’ve changed login url using iThemes and now you’ve disabled iThemes without deactivating it in the usual way, it is kind of “normal” to hit that issue. I think you should now contact iThemes support in order to resolve that specific issue.

Thanks all for responses .. I’ve just tried re activating and I’ve been able to access the page, reset my password and logged in. It must have been on a timer!
