• Hi

I have been locked out of my site due to inputting the wrong password and my IP is now bocked.

I have recently moved house and could not use plusnet the broadband provider. Subsequently I no longer have the default email address either so cannot use password recovery.

What can I do to get in and then can I change the default email address when I do?

  • Hard to tell, we don’t know what solution you’re using to lock people out of your blog. A plugin probably, but which one ?

    There are two scenarii here
    – the best scenario, you have another admin-level account on your blog, and you have a cellphone allowing you to visit your blog through your 3G/4G connexion. Just log in with the other admin-level account and go to administrate users, unblock the usual admin user, and while you’re at home, reboot your router to obtain a new IP.
    – the most probable scenario, where you don’t have a backup admin account. Then in such a case you’d better love using PhpMyadmin, you’ll have to go to your database, to the wp_users table, sort users by ID, and try to find if there’s a mention of user lock (if at 1, set it back to 0, but note somewhere the changes you made to undo them if it breaks stuff), and try to search for your IP in the options table to find where it is listed as blacklisted, and replace it with another figure (whatever else) to un-blacklist you. Tell you what, make a database backup first ??

If you rename your “plugins” folder via FTP, all of your plugins will automatically deactivate. Then you can rename that folder back to “plugins” to get into your dashboard.

It depends, Andrew. I once had the Limit Login Attempts and User Locker plugins, and either because of one of them or because of their combination, once I was locked, deactivating the plugins didn’t lift the ban, I had to go to the database and edit stuff.
