locations list showing deleeted and private locations

I’ve put a lot of unused locations in the bin and others have “private” status.

However, all these locations appear on the front end, whether the list is accessed via the static locations page or using the [locations_list] shortcode.

I want to keep the unused locations since they may need to be used for future events. How do I get them to disappear from the list? Using the “private” search attribute has no effect.
