Locations feature not working

    I previously had Geo-Blocking setup on my WordPress site via Defender, but recently noticed it was no longer working. I assume it changed with an update, so I followed the directions to set it up again under Firewall > IP Banning > Locations. After entering my license key, it gives a success message and refreshes the page, but the Locations section doesn’t update so that I can start blocking locations. I’m still presented with the instructions on how to setup via MaxMind. Have tried entering my key multiple times with the same result.

    Any ideas on what could be causing this? I’m using the most up-to-date version of the plugin.

    I just tested setting up Maxmind on a previous version of Defender, on 2 different sites, then updated Defender to latest. The Locations blocking is still working on both sites after update, so I don’t think the issue is related to a Defender update.

    Is there perhaps some server-side cache that could be interfering?

    Or possibly some other active plugin that was recently updated as well, and that may be conflicting?

    Have you checked for a possible conflict by temporarily deactivating all other plugins to see if the Locations options then display as they should?

    There is also the possibility that the update of Defender on your site may have been corrupted by a connection hiccup; rare, but it happens. In that case, re-installing usually fixes the issue.

    Please check for the above possibilities, and we’ll dig in from there if that doesn’t prove fruitful.

    Thanks for the quick reply and giving me some direction on what to look into. I tried clearing the cache server side on my live instance, then tried the following on my staging environment (cacheing disabled):

    • Deactivated all plugins except Defender
    • Deactivated, deleted, then reinstalled Defender; I tried first by keeping the data, then tried to start fresh with no data

    Unfortunately, none of those seemed to resolve the issue. My child theme is up-to-date as well BTW. Anything I can provide to help figure out what’s causing this, just let me know.

    Apologies for the response delay here.

    Can you please try the following:

    – Access your site’s files via FTP or a File Manager utility at your host
    – Go to wp-content/uploads/wp-defender
    – Delete the maxminds folder from that directory if it exists

    It’s possible that something got “stuck” during some update, and deleting that folder if it’s still in there would effectively reset the feature so you can configure it again.
