    Good day everyone,

Can anyone suggest a plugin or code that I can add to automatically populate location results with a dropdown list as the user types. Example typing “Auck” and getting the result “Auckland”.

I have purchased the the plugin suggested by WP Job manager addons, but on further investigation and confirmed it with the creator it only works by using the arrow keys to select the spacific location from the dropdown and NOT by clicking. At least 50% of users use the mouse to click on the dropdown box. If you actually click on the field it only selects what have been typed and not pre-fill it with what is in the dropdown. Using the example above WP Job Manager will only search “Auck” and then deliver no results if clicked on the dropdown results.

For this reason I deactivated the plugin, I’d rather have a user enter the whole name and get results than enter part of it using the dropdown and giving them a 50% chance of no results.

Does anyone have any alternative or solution to add a dropdown box with location suggestions?. Or have a solution to this problem?.

    Thank you

Seems like a strange issue that the author of the plugin should be able to fix.

    Thank you for your reply
I contacted them and this was their response or part of it:

“The problem comes in with the fact that when we auto-suggest a location – WP Job Manager is only looking at typed instances.
Our plugin’s suggestions are not visible to WPJM (as they anticipate a typed response). Our suggestions is to the front end user – the suggestion is not available to the search code.
The way our code suggests is pausing WPJM’s instances. If we had a search button – the full location suggested would be the location searched on.

So we are in a bit of a rock and hard place:
The standard WPJM code and search functionality only looks at typed instances. There is no way in the backend code to inject the front end suggested location, unless there is a search button.
We feel that adding a search button will overthrow the balance created by WPJM – and might not be future proof when there is a new WPJM update.

The only remedy at this point is to ask WPJM to allow a suggestion (mouse click) action to be used in their code.

The only way to fully use this plugin is to use the keyboard (as WPJM is type suggestion) and using the arrow buttons, select the location you want before hitting enter / return.”

It seems with that response I need help from outside

    Hey @ma001,

Sorry for the super late reply.

Please open a new enhancement issue on our public repository with as many details as possible and we’ll see what we can do to help with this:
