• Hi, I run a wordpress website and my Sucuri plugin recently notified me that my .htaccess file was modified.

File modified .htaccess (old size: 349, new size: 374)

I immediately accessed the cpanel and did a search. It located the file:
    /public_html/.htaccess

It seems that the file is hidden as I was unable to locate it in the directory.

I followed instructions to “Reset All Interface Settings” but there was still no option to show hidden files and the .htaccess file remained searchable but hidden.

Does anyone know if I can find a way to located the file? I’m also curious if modifications to this file are normal.

    Thanks!

  • Is there an option to show hidden files in the cPanel file manager?

I think that some plugins will change .htaccess as can WordPress itself.

Nope I cannot seem to find the option to show hidden files in the cPanel file manager. The “Reset All Interface Settings” method is not working for me either.

infact there is an option in the cpanel

let me tell you I also had this problem and I wanted to enable hidden files so somebody told me this solution and it worked …

so read my message and follow this … Go to your cpanel and login.

After logged in you’ll be on the main screen where all the windows like environment is there. Now look for the filemanager option.

When you click on filemanager you get a popup on the screen . So this popup asks which directory to open “right on this popup look for the checkbox that says show hidden files”.
So just check this option to show hidden files and then proceed to the filemanager … now you will find the .htaccess file easily … I hope this solves your problem.

    Thanks
