• I’ve looked around a few files but without success – which wordpress php file has the settings for FTP? I am changing the password on the server and need to update wordpress accordingly but I do not see anywhere to do that in admin panel and I haven’t found the file that has that info. wp-config.php has some db info but not ftp.

  • WP does not hold your FTP settings in any file.

Those are set with your Web host.

I know they are set by the web host, but how does wordpress upload images to the server? It must do it somehow, and this is typically done through FTP.

I do not remember now, but we probably entered our server FTP password and username when we installed WordPress. This information MUST be stored in a file by WordPress so WordPress can successfully log in every time you need to upload files to the site. Otherwise we would be required to type in the username / password manually everytime we needed to upload something, which we do not have to do.

I’m just looking for the file where wordpress stores this information – I know it is set and managed by the server (I manage my server and know all about that). Just not sure which file wordpress has the info stored in as a reference for wordpress.

Never heard about wp storing ftp access pass and user.
Wordpress only needs your DB name, user, pass and host.

In wordpress 2.5.x you can update plugins automatically and you have to enter your ftp host name, pass and user, but as far as I know, that info is only stored at your local browser cookies…if you tell it to remember form inserted data.

Image uploads are accomplished using PHP.

As has already been stated, WP does NOT store ANY FTP info inside any files.

Im not even going to go ‘there’.
