Localhost won’t send email for reset password?

    I installed WordPress on my desktop (Mac OS X, MySQL and PHP both installed and running fine). The site works fine when accessed on my local drive, but I had some trouble logging back into the Dashboard, so I went through the “Lost your password?” process, after which I received this message: “The e-mail was sent successfully to admin’s e-mail address.” No email ever arrived, however. So now my password is reset and I don’t know what the new one is. Anyone know what I need to do to get the localhost to successfully send the aforementioned email?
