• I’ve never connected WordPress through MAMP. My girlfriend is a developer also, and recently used my laptop to test a wordpress site locally using MAMP. Now, my website wont work. When I attempt to go to my domain https://localhost:8888/taxjacket/ I get the message:

    This site can’t be reached

    localhost refused to connect.

I’m not sure what’s happening. When I go to localhost:8888 it gives me a list of the websites created on the laptop, and I can’t access any of the ones that weren’t using MAMP previously. I’ve gone through a few posts and haven’t seen a problem quite like mine.

Just for reference, I’ve already checked localhost:8888/readme.html and got the same message.

  • Try making sure your MAPM apache and mysql are running. You probably just have to start MAMP first.

I don’t use MAMP (I use XAMPP); but I know the XAMPP modules have to be started (in a little control panel) before the sites will load locally.

The MAMP program probably shuts down each time you turn off the laptop… and isn’t set to autostart (so it doesn’t get loaded until you do it manually).

    Hope this helps.
