Hey all – I’m banging my head here. I am doing a local install of wordpress, following the instructions here:

    https://geeksaresexy.blogspot.com/2006/06/installing-wordpress-locally-under.html

Everything went fine until I tried to direct my browser here:

    https://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php

    Then I get:

    Object not found!

The requested URL was not found on this server. If you entered the URL manually please check your spelling and try again.

    Error 404

    Apache/2.2.17 (Win32) mod_ssl/2.2.17 OpenSSL/0.9.8o PHP/5.3.4 mod_perl/2.0.4 Perl/v5.10.1

Now I’m running the latest version of Xampplite, sql and apache are running, going to phpmyadmin and checking, I see wordpress is created and all looks good. Host is localhost, user is root. If I were to use windows explorer to go to C:\xampplite\htdocs\wordpress\wp-admin, the files seem to be all in order. SO….what the heck have I missed?

    Very confused, thanks

I’ll try to refine my question. The local server is working, mysql and apache are running fine, the wordpress database is created. WordPress is installed under the correct folder, the file wp-config.php has been created and saved. What would cause the localhost to not see the install.php file?
