Local Host email notification

I made a locally hosted ecommerce site for practice based on bitnami. On completion I wanted to check the functionality of the site, so I added few products to the cart and got into the checkout page. Since I do not have a payment gateway so I just had cash on delivery enabled on woocommerce. I was able to make the order but I did not receive any email to the site email address or the email address I mentioned when making the order. My knowledge on website building is very limited so I do not have a clear idea about the functionality of a website on a local host. Have I done anything wrong when setting up or is it that locally hosted sites cannot be checked for email notifications?
