• I am currently trying out Migrate & Backup WordPress, thank you very much.

Is Migrate & Backup WordPress officially compatible with Local by Flywheel yet?

If it is only partially compatible, what kind of things should users expect not to work?

This thread and this thread indicate that you have recognized incompatibility between Migrate & Backup WordPress and Local by Flywheel. But also that you for a couple of months have been working on improving compatibility.

What is the projected date for official compatibility?

    Hi @matheron

Thanks for reaching out to us!

We are still working on the compatibility with Local by Flywheel. At the same time, we also have some previously-scheduled development tasks to carry out. So please allow us some time.

Some of our users have reported that there are some problems with backups in Local by Flywheel environment, but others can use it normally. So you can have a try first.

    Kind Regards,

It may work, then. I should have a try.

Please consider adding official compatibility with Local by Flywheel soon.

    Thank you! We will.

I just did a bunch of Local to Production restores today.

The only thing I found not working is that the POSTS –> CATEGORIES changes are NOT transferring over to the server-based site properly. It defaults to the single UNCATEGORIZED category and doesn’t transfer the locally created categories.

    Hi @kcwebguy

Thanks for the feedback! We’ll test this as well when adding the compatibility with Local by Flywheel.

In the meantime, here are some possible causes of ‘migration not complete’ issue and the solutions that may help:

    1. Set up a fresh WordPress installation and run a restore again.

    2. Make sure that the source site and the target site have same PHP and MySQL environment or at least the PHP and MySQL versions are not much different.

    3. Some themes or page builders have their own migration methods, once the migration is complete, their data need to be regenerated:
    a. After migrating Elementor pages, please go to WordPress admin dashboard >> Elementor >> Tools >> General >> Regenerate CSS and click on Regenerate Files button and save changes.
    b. To migrate Oxygen pages, you will need to search and follow their official docs.

No problem. Thanks for the feedback! @matheron

    THIS WAS A FRESH INSTALL.

PHP IS THE SAME. DB IS CLOSE. I AM USING A MAC AND THE MAC INSTALL OF LOCAL DOESN’T INCLUDE MARIADB FOR SOME REASON. CAN YOU OFFER GUIDANCE WITH THAT?

I HAVE THE DEFAULT WORDPRESS THEME AND NO PLUGINS AT ALL EXCEPT FOR THE WPVIVID.

Any additional help you can offer would be welcomed.

    Hi @kcwebguy

    Thanks for the update!

This can be a problem with the database service.

You can try to use PDO interface instead of WPDB to backup and restore. To do that, go to the plugin settings >> Advanced Settings >> Choose PDO as the Database access method >> Save changes then take a backup, transfer and restore again.

The plugin backs up the entire database. So generally you won’t lose content. Because it doesn’t not analyze the content, but directly back up all database tables.

    Kind Regards,

It appears that the PDO settings allowed the full data to transfer over, including the Category info that was at issue.

I will proceed with these settings into the future.

    Thanks for your help!
