    Hello,

In my wp-content/updraft folder, there are a bunch of files that never get deleted and i have to manually remove.

They appear to be tmp files e.g.

    backup_2021-09-10-1500_***_476890a3444c-uploads10.zip.tmp.79a5090a

    Hi,

Those files will be automatically deleted after 24 hours. Please check FAQ: https://updraftplus.com/faqs/will-updraftplus-leave-large-temporary-files-behind-like-some-other-backup-plugin/

    Thanks,

    Hi,

The files are timestamped from months ago, and this has happened for a while.

Our updraft folder ended up being over 30gb big and ended up taking down our server until we figured out why we had maxed out our storage.

    Hi,

Considering that the backup could not finish, it is possible that your server is not able to delete huge files? Can you check with them please?

Also, are you still experiencing the same issue?

    Thanks,
    Bryle

    Hi,

Yes, as mentioned this has happened for many months and i’ve had to manually delete them.

I have backups on my dropbox and it appears to have copied fine.

Can you explain what you mean by it can’t delete large files? i’ve deleted it myself and there are some in there that have already been deleted.

    Hi,

    Sorry for the late reply.

As per one of our developers said:
System-level temporary folders will, or at least should be, purged by a system task. If that’s not happening (e.g. they’re still there 24 hours later), then you should speak to your web hosting company.

UD doesn’t create those files directly; they’re created by the PclZip library inside WordPress, which doesn’t advise the caller about any temporary files. Therefore, the caller can’t itself see temporary files on the system and purge them (without risking purging some other task’s temporary files, since it doesn’t know what belongs to whom). Therefore, they have to be / are meant to be tidied up by the system temporary file job.

    Thanks,
    Bryle

These are not system level temp files, you state that UD doesn’t create these files.

This cannot be true as they are within the folder wp-content/UPDRAFT

These are clearly files created by Updraft and the plugin is not cleaning up after itself for whatever reason.

I note another thread on your own forum with another user experiencing the same issue

    https://updraftplus.com/forums/topic/files-not-being-deleted-from-website/

There is no way these files are not created by updraft when it is clearly being created within your directory and are related to UD backups.

    Hi,

I will ask my colleague for clarification on this matter.

    Thanks,

    Please any update?

Its like some backups are being deleted because we are getting left over files every day like

    uploads2
    uploads6
    etc

so its like some of the tmp files are deleted and not others and for whatever reason updraft is not trying again to clear this out

    Hi,

Please can you provide us a copy of the backup log? I will ask my colleagues to check.

    Thanks,

Do you have any timeframe you can help us with as it has been close to 4 weeks since this is first mentioned and only now we getting asked for support logs

Please can you provide us a copy of the backup log? I will ask my colleagues to check.

@bcrodua Can you please provide a link to a place to post those logs? Stop asking for logs in the forums. It is the wrong place to share that much data.

@shapeschicken Please do not post large code or responses like that here, it doesn’t work after ~10 lines or so. You posted 10,278 lines and that a bit more than 10 lines.

If you need share that data please use https://gist.github.com/ or https://pastebin.com/ instead and post the link to that paste.

Sorry about that, wasn’t sure where to send it

    Hi,

Thank you, apologies for the ongoing inconvenience.

From the log, it appears that the current uploads backup is very large.
This may be resulting in the cleanup operation being timed out due to the large number of temporary files created.

Please could you try adding the following to the Uploads exclusion list:

    – wpfc-backup
    – wpmc-trash
    – wpseo-redirects

These are not required for a backup, and may be inflating the size of the backup by a considerable amount.
