[Plugin: Backup] local backup not needed or wanted

    I have to believe there are potentially many others in a similar situation:

    I use CPanel-based shared-hosting; my host provides nightly backups so I am covered “locally”

    What I DONT have is unlimited local storage; in fact my site has been online for some time and has a considerable amount of content that uses just over 1/2 of my allotted storage of 500mb; conceivably, if I store just one more full-site backup locally it will not only send me over my quota but it leaves no space for temp files that might be needed for WP upgrades, plugin installs and ever-fluctuating W3TC caching needs. In short, I am pretty comfortable right where I am currently at just over 1/2 my allotted local storage. I have tried other plugin backup solutions in the past and it always comes down to this.

    That said… is it possible to set the backup plugin up with no local backup?

    An even more elegant solution would seem to be able to send the Cpanel backups to Google Drive (for redundancy)

  • Hi,

    Short answer is yes, it is possible.

    While it is possible to not save any local backups, the backup process still needs to temporarily store a backup archive locally while it uploads to Google Drive.
