I am backing up to S3 and have “Delete local backup” checked under “Settings”. But backup files are still accumulating in the /wp-content/updraft/ folder. How can I resolve this, so that these files are not retained? Thanks.

    Hi,

Can you please change the retain value from 14 to 2 in UpdraftPlus > Settings?

    Thanks,

What are the names of the files that are in wp-content/updraft ?

OK, I have changed the retain value to 2. Will see if that makes a difference.

The files in the updraft folder are:
    emptydir
(Multiple files such as following, one file seemingly per database table. Site name has been obscured for privacy, this is a client site.)
    .backup_2018-12-27-1044_site_name_214088a9f0c0-uploads.zip.IInD60
    .htaccess
    backup_2018-12-27-1044_site_name_214088a9f0c0-db.gz
    backup_2018-12-27-1044_site_name_214088a9f0c0-db-table-wp_commentmeta.table.gz
    index.html
(Multiple log files such as following.)
    log.4aeefd60321d.txt
    web.config

    Hi,

Please can you share to us a copy of the backup log from Dec. 27, 2018? It appears that the backup for that day has failed causing the backups to be retained on your server. UpdraftPlus will only delete the backups after it is successfully sent to your remote storage.

    Hi,

    Thanks for sending the log.

It shows that the backup process is timed out or killed off.

Could you try to reduce the backup archive split size. This will split the backup into smaller, more manageable files.

To do this, open the ‘expert settings’ section of the UpdraftPlus Settings tab, and find the ‘split backups every’ option. Set this to 50Mb save your settings and run a test backup.

If the issue persists, please ask your hosts/server admin to investigate their PHP error logs. These logs should contain more information on the exact issue that is causing the backup process to halt.

I reduced the archive split size to 50MB and did a backup. The log file for the backup:

    log.ed82a0e7581a.txt

There remain files from the backup in the updraft folder.

    Hi,

Let’s back up a bit… those file names indicate a backup from 27th December (the ‘2018-12-27’ part), apparently a backup still in progress? That doesn’t seem to be part of the problem you’ve originally described, backups still being retained after being completed? Can you clarify?

    David
