• I’m setting up a www.remarpro.com site for my sister because she wants to move it from WordPress.com and I’ve got it up and running at allisoningalls.com. The old site was at allisoningalls.wordpress.com. I’ve exported the WordPress XML file from her old site and imported it into the new site with the “Download and import file attachments” option selected. The images are all in the new site’s /wp-content/uploads directory and the posts are all showing up.

The problem I’m having is that I can’t figure out how to make WordPress serve up the smaller images I see in the uploads folders. As an example, here is the Apache log entry for a request for the first image on the front page of the new site:

    24.xxx.xxx.xxx – – [27/Nov/2010:04:36:03 -0800] “GET /wp-content/uploads/2010/11/p1060404.jpg?w=1024 HTTP/1.0” 200 3610499https://allisoningalls.com/” “Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_4; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Safari/533.18.5”

It’s serving a ~3.5MB file! The old site serves up the same image weighing in at about 170KB (I think it’s probably the 1024×768 image shrunk down by the width and height attributes). I can’t identify any settings that are different in the admin panels in the old one.

Has anybody had a similar problem?
