Load tab content on click only

I have a page with a lot of tabs, and the preloading of the content really slows down the load speed of the page.

Is it possible to only have a tab’s content loaded when a tab is clicked on? Of course, the first tab would be preloaded.

I’d rather not go an iframe route.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
