• Wordfence has been working seemingly fine for years on our server, but has started displaying this error (when I’m trying to view the live traffic, for example):

Error writing value chunk for wfsd_engine (MySQL error: [0] )

I’m not sure just how recently this error started, but we haven’t made any other recent changes to the WordPress installation.

Any idea what this error might indicate? The SQL server itself doesn’t show any errors or problems at all.

    Thanks!

  • Hi jeeverett,
Can you confirm that you don’t have this error displayed in “Scan Detailed Activity” box in the scan page? I suggest turning on “Enable debugging mode” option -temporarily- under (Wordfence > Diagnostics) and run a new scan after that, keep watching for any error message that might appear in the activity log.

Also, please go to (Wordfence > Diagnostics) page and let me know your current “PHP version”.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Yes, it appears the error also shows up periodically in the “scan detailed activity” box. For example:

[Nov 15 13:26:29] Analyzed 3100 files containing 34.93 MB of data so far
[Nov 15 13:26:29] Analyzed 3200 files containing 36 MB of data so far
[Nov 15 13:26:31] Error writing value chunk for wfsd_engine (MySQL error: [0] )
[Nov 15 23:52:56] Scheduled Wordfence scan starting at Tuesday 15th of November 2016 11:52:56 PM

    Current PHP version is 5.3.26.

It sounds like I should try enabling debugging mode then? Thanks for the help! ??

You should not enable “debugging mode” forever, just for debugging purposes like that, as it increases the database load.

I recommend upgrading PHP to version 5.6 or newer as mentioned in the plugin requirements page, and that’s what WordPress recommends as well, hopefully this should fix this issue, if you don’t have an option to upgrade it via the control panel of your web host, you can contact them asking for that.

Let me know how it goes,
    Thanks.

Huh, running a scan with debugging mode enabled doesn’t appear to have added much useful information. The only error is still:

    ..
[Nov 18 14:47:52] Calling fork() from wordfenceHash with maxExecTime: 15
    [Nov 18 14:47:52] Entered fork()
[Nov 18 14:47:52] Error writing value chunk for wfsd_engine (MySQL error: [0] )

Does that help at all? ??

I’m also looking into upgrading the PHP version. Thanks again!
