• Hi, I wonder if the excerpt shown in the live results list could be configured to show that part of the text which contains the found (and highlighted) search terms.

As it is now, search terms found at the beginning of a page are shown, but if the location of the fund is further down the page, the live results list doesn’t show the relevant part of the text, but simply the beginning of the text, regardless of it containing the search term or not.

How can I change this so that the live results list always shows the text excerpt in which the search term occurs?

    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi,

By default the plugin should do that, the “description context” feature is enabled. It is however set to check the first 10 000 characters only. If you have more lengthy texts, you can change it here.

If description displayed in the live results list is still not “around” the keywords, then also try changing this option.

    Hi Ernest,

Thanks for your quick reply! Following your hints I was able to get the desired results. ??

However, there is another issue: If the search term contains special characters like the German umlauts ?, ?, ü the highlighting doesn’t work. Live results show the correct part of the text where the search term occurs but there is no highlighting, neither in the live results nor in the page.

Is there a possibility to solve this?

    Thanks,
    Steve

Those should work all right as well, regardless of the accents.

Can you please check if the script source is set to Minified, then clear your cache and try again?

Make sure the highlighter is also set to match partial words as well.

I just tested, and it works all right on our ends. You can try on the demo page, phrases like “adam”, “?d?m”, “??”, “??”, “oo”: https://i.imgur.com/hYZToRc.png

    Hi Ernest,

Tried that, unfortunately to no avail.

When I search for “brücke” nothing is highlighted, but “brucke” finds “brücke” and highlights it, though not in each case. I don’t get it.

Well, I think I’m going to persuade my customer to buy the pro version and then ask for individual support.

However, I’m impressed by your quick replies and valuable tips even for the free version here. Thumbs up!

    Thanks,
    Steve

You are welcome Steve. I have no clue what the cause might be there. I assume it may be a different encoding or something(?). I know some special characters are challenging for the highlighter, and can’t deal with them, but this is not the case for sure.
