l no longer needed the staging site so I deleted it. When I returned to my live site’s dashboard and opened Google Site Kit, it said,

“Site Kit can’t access necessary data

Looks like your site is not allowed access to Google account data and can’t display stats in the dashboard.”

Why would it remove that from the live site when I only deleted the staging site?

When I attempt to “Redo the plugin“, it sends me to the staging URL instead.

    Hi @liz1233
Did you try to set up Google Site Kit on the staging site? Maybe it has your staging site’s URL linked to your Google account and stuck there, or did you try to migrate the staging site to the live site somehow?

In general, I see this reply as very helpful in this case, through which you can reset the Google Site Kit data and register your live site again.

P.S. I checked your log files, I can see you are using the old version of “Site Kit by Google: 1.124.0”, it’s worth it to update the plugin to the latest stable version.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that deleting a staging site won’t affect your live site’s data at all, as both the staging and live site are totally separated and can’t affect each others unless you push one to another.

    Thanks,
    Alaa

No, Google Site Kit was already setup when I made the staging site. I also did not migrate the staging site to the live site. I simply deleted the staging site, and then GSK broke on the live site which is why this is confusing. Since they are supposed to be totally separate, I wanted to understand why this would have happened. And when I started to go through resetting it, it sent me to the staging URL instead.

Yes, the plugin is out of date. I recently replaced another developer so I have been updating plugins, and that was on the schedule for yesterday – but couldn’t since the GSK broke on the live site.

it could be that the previous developer converted a staging site previously created with wp staging as a live site but did not change all URLS in the database.

Besides that I have no explanation why deleting a staging site would have an effect on the live site. There must be mixed up data, likely created by manual actions in the db.

We can have a look at that if you contact us here.

    All the best

    René
