    Hello,

I have an original situation to report. I’ve been setting up a fresh 5.0.4 site with o2switch host, and Twenty Seventeen theme. Came the time of optimization. For that task i I selected latest versions of :

    • FVM
    • aSync Javascript
    • LiteSpeed Plugin
    • Server’s LiteSpeed
    • Server’s PageSpeed mod

After some tweaking I obtained results satisfying me :

    1. GTmetrix : PSpeed 92 / YSlow 86 / 1.7s / 20 requests
    2. Pingdom : B 84 / 614ms / 22 requests
    3. PSI : 100 86

I added WP-optimize to get rid of drafts and such. Continued to work. Feeling lucky I later migrated to WP 5.1.1. Testing the website I identified an error with captcha in Contact Form 7, corrected it thanks to Hai.

Then I realised the correction was not consistent. It was ok in Admin and an unrelated laptop. But every other device was still preventing the usage of the form. From that point, it’s became a wreck. I started to investigate more deeply and also realized perf were “bad”, like there were not anymore any optimization. I tried to revert my last changed settings. No success. As time passed I went to bigger and bigger solutions. Reading more and more faq, docs. Some of the multiple things tried:

    1. Flush cache
    2. Change some parameters (plugs+ pagemod)
    3. Defaulting parameters
    4. Delete plugins
    5. Reinstall plugin
    6. Switched FVM to Autoptimize
    7. Unactivate LScache on server level
    8. Restored a backup from a known safe point.

At each step in the process I ran benchmarks. Not a thing I tried did made a difference. Benchs were constantly low. At some point I realized that the only logical cause to such ehavior was I had some kind of caching issue. Furthermore, updates made to the content of my website were not seen online. Whatever the device, browser and state of browser cache.

With no more ideas on my side I contacted my host support. Long story short, in the end they deactivated LScache (server and plugin, supposedly just like I did) themselves and content on the site again refreshed. Performance were also back to a normal, acceptable, level.

I’ve since tried to reactivate the whole LS cache and again, perf are still lowered, even as if not as bad as before. Right now :

    LS OFF :

    • GTmetrix : 94 / 85 / 3.3s / 487kb / 25 requests
    • Pingdom : B 82 / 580kb / 2.1s / 28 requests
    • PSI : 97 / 66

    LS ON :

    • GTmetrix : 87 / 76 / 3s / 807kb / 46 requests
    • Pingdom : C 70 / 1Mb / 1s / 48 requests
    • PSI : 94 / 54

What could be the source of this underperforming situation and what should I check to correct it?

I almost forgot one point, the icing on the cake. When LS is on, the one form I have on one page, based on Contact Form 7, still cannot work.

Hi @fneuf, thanks for the reporting.

May I know is the slow issue also happening when you are using LiteSpeed Server without LiteSpeed cache plugin?

Also, Could you please provide your Report Number, found in?WP Admin > LiteSpeed Cache > Report.

Thanks for your answer Stanley. The Report number is KDQUDXTU.

I would need to test it a bit more, but LS cache server on with plugin off seems an in-between solution : not the worst spec (for instance PSI 95/62), but definitely not the best is achieved. The best is still clearly achieved with all caching ways off.

    Hi,

It’s bit of weird that with LSCWP on , score drops but load speed increased.

I also see many of optimization features were not enabled, I’d suggest you to tweak them.

I see you mentioned PageSpeed mod , please disable it when you use LSCWP.

I also noticed you are running on Apache/nginx stack which means , caching feature won’t work , only optimization feature will work.

    Best regards,

    Thanks for your answer.

I was not using optimizing features in LiteSpeed plugin because I already had FVM (and then Autoptimize) plus Async javascripted activated. Did not wanted to mix settings.

My host offer this Apache/Nginx stack plus the possibility to use LiteSpeed cache or a Varnish based one. If I understand you correctly, they shouldn’t propose that?

I’ll try with PageSpeed completely off.

EDIT : and to be complete, until last weekend when the behavior issue arise, this stack plus LS server cache, plugin, FVM, Async and PSpeed were working great (my best metrics achieved so far).

    Hi,

I am not exactly sure how your hosting provider set up their server.

Ideally , when you are using LiteSpeed Web Server with LiteSpeed Cache, there is no need to set up Varnish above that.

Or you mean your hosting provider does Apache/Nginx + LiteSpeed ? that would be really weird setup for me that is.

If you already have other optimization plugin configured , and only enable LSCWP for cache , it shouldn’t alter the score as none of the LSCWP optimization are in place and only caching which should improve the load speed.

So if I understand you correctly.

You have other plugin for optimization , for JS CSS , stuff like that, and then you want to use LSCWP for caching only ?

    (@fneuf)

Yes, it’s my original intent. And had quite success with that during a few days (first numbers in my first post). At some point, I suppose when I was investigating the Contact-Form-7 issue that I finally solved, something changed and did alter the results.

And also yes, my host use some kind of Apache/Nginx architecture and propose their customer, should they wish, to activate LiteSpeed OR Varnish through the cPanel, along with PageSpeed Mod possibilities. I tried to get a better understanding of that, but they refuse to give me more details for “industrial secrecy” and “competitors protection” reasons.

    Hi,

If you have other plugin doing optimization and please try only enable caching on LSCWP and disable all other features.

Let us know how thing goes and if you need any help.

    Hello,

Thanks for your message. Please consider that’s already the case. That’s how I intended to setup my wordpress plugin environment. If it’s not the case, defacto I need help to identify which parameter should be disabled/enabled.

    Hi,

I’d suggest you try to reset to default LSCWP setting , only enable cache in first 1 tab.

    and also disable pagespeed mod.

    let’s see how that goes.

    Hi @fneuf

I see from your report that you are not on LiteSpeed Web Server. That is why the caching functions are not working for you.

In general, the Optimization functions work for everyone on every server, but the Caching functions only work if you are using a LiteSpeed server.

If you are interested in using the caching functions with your Apache server, we have a new CDN that lets you do just that. It’s still in beta, but you can get the instructions here if you want to try it.

Please refer to the latest VZJFZAHH report for analysis.

It is made with LiteSpeed cache on server activated, PageSpeed unactivated, and WP plugin settings reset and only set as caching.

This time it looks like load time did improve, but other perfs (# requests, page size, pingdom perf grade, PSI metrics) are still decreasing, but this time just a little bit when cache is on.

    Hi,

    from response header, I see

    server: nginx

    x-lsadc-cache: hit

I guess the setup is like nginx –> LiteSpeed ADC –> Apache —> PHP

Could you please submit a ticket here and also please attach the screenshots for result of GTmetrix or pingdom test with LSCWP on and off ?

Thanks for your answer. I’ll do so in the coming hours.

    Hi @fneuf !

I’m using O2switch too. I activated LiteSpeed in Cpanel, and then installed the WP plugin, but the plugin says that LiteSpeed isn’t activated on the server. Did you do anything else to make it work?

I also read LiteSpeed made your speed drop. In the end, did you go back to XtremCache? Or what settings did you use?

Thanks a lot. I’m a real noob and I have troubles understanding what’s the best way to set up my O2switch cache.
