• I migrated from WordPress.com to WP.com recently. On my inventory lists, I had them (and want them) organized as a list. When viewing the pages via the Dashboard, it appears as a list but when viewing the website, they show up as merged into one large paragraph. How do I correct this so they show up as lists on the website?

My site is: https://driftlessprairies.org — Look at the categories under Bio Inventory.

  • The “list” on the Prairie Heaven” site really isn’t; it is a series of paragraphs with a
</br> at the end of the English name.

You can easily format yours by doing a shift-return at place where the next line should start. In the above site, for example:

Acer rubrum – Red Maple(hold down the shift key while pressing Enter or Return)
Acer saccarinum – Silver Maple(press Return to get the usual paragraph space before starting Anacardiaceae – Cashew Family

Or is what you are looking for what you now have on your site for Reptiles – Some Interesting Reptile Facts … that’s a bullet list (unordered list).

2ninerniner2 — I tried the shift-return but it didn’t work. As I was entering them, it appeared in a list format but when I went to the site, it was in paragraph form. What I want to do is list the animal/bird/insect/ects and then be able to click on the name and have a photo/s and info about them displayed.

WPyogi — I downloaded those 2 plugs in you suggested and will play with them. I’m assuming that what I need to do for these lists is create a table using the Pods plug in — is that what you had in mind? If so, then I can link a page to the name, correct?

And if I could pick your brain for one more thing…is there a photo gallery plug in that you would suggest? I could need it such that a person could click on the photo and it would link them to a page of more photos and info.

Many, many, many thanks for all your help!

Hi – I wasn’t really thinking of a table – but more of a way to organize the data. It’s a more complex approach, so it really depends on how you want to use that data…

Maybe you can give me a bit more of an idea of what you really would like to be able to do with the page(s) and your data?

WordPress has a pretty good gallery function as is – but there are many others as well – I’m guessing most, if not all, could do what you want. Also, JetPack has good gallery features.

This is a super plugin that might work too:

What I want is to make it easy for those accessing the site to get info about a certain animal/plant/insect/etc. Two thoughts come to mind as to how to present this: 1) as a simple list that is linked to a page with photos and info and 2) as a photo gallery that links to a page with more photos and info. Depending on what bio inventory I’m working on will depend on which of these I use.

I think PODS might be the best way to go – it’s a bit more set up at the beginning but should be easier and more efficient in the long run. Looks like they have tons of good info on their site and you could ask on the plugin’s forum for specific help about the best way to set it up.

Muchas gracias!! Let me play with what all you’ve suggested. I may be back to ask more questions as I progress. I’m a quick learner and I know what I want, which I think is a good thing!! But…I’m a bit dumb in the beginning. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
