• I have a blog site where the first page lists all posts by order of creation. So you click on one and go to the actual post page. On the post page, I need to have in the sidebar a section that says See Also: and then lists all other posts in the category of the current post.

My problem lies in that even though Post 1 might be related to Posts 3, 7, 8, 10, 12, 25, then Post 3 might be related to Post 8, 25, 36, 37.

So I’d like to be able to assign posts to multiple categories and set a Primary Category, then when you view that post, you only see the other posts related to the Primary category of the post they are viewing.

I installed the plugin from Dagon Design, “Other Posts from Cat” plugin and this works great except for one small thing. It lists posts from the “FIRST” category that post is in and not a “PRIMARY” category of the post.

Is anyone able to assist me with this perhaps by merging this plug-in with the NG Primary Category plug-in or similar plug-in to obtain my desired results?

    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • What about a plugin such as List Category Posts?

Thank you for the reply. I looked at this plugin actually. The problem lies in that I need the category posts that show up in the sidebar to be dynamically generated based on the Primary category of the current post being viewed.

I will have so many different categories that in order to do one for each post, I’d have to make hundreds of different templates and assign each post to a different template that specifies the category to show on that post page. At least I think that’s what I’d have to do based on my understanding of this plugin. With this plugin you have to specify a category name or ID rather than it automatically grabbing it from the current post. If I’m wrong on that, I hope someone will enlighten me. Perhaps for the Value, I can use an argument as opposed to an actual Category Name or ID #??

I’m sure I could use something like this in combination with something else or tweak the code a bit to get it to work, but unfortunately I am not a programmer. ??

Perhaps a different approach would to ask anyone with PHP programming experience to write something that combines both the Primary category plugin and the Other Posts from Cat plugin so that the Other Posts from Cat plugin only takes posts from the Primary Category that post is in. Would anyone be interested in doing this? If so, please quote an hourly fee and estimated time it would take.

    Thanks.

What you mention could be a great feature for List Category Posts. I’ll see into it, maybe I’ll include it in a future release.

About the fee, inviting me a coffee through Paypal would be just fine ??

    Regards

i’m currently trying to achieve exactly the same thing. Did you have any luck wendibee?

or any luck on integrating it into List Category Posts fernandobt?
